In love with travelling

This is long overdue. But since I've turned into such a globetrotter this needed to be done.

Welcome to my low key travel blog.

This is my face.

Me, Namra, in LA, California. This is where I realized that I should travel more solo.

The reason I have chosen this picture is not because I look badass, but because this is where it all started. I had been travelling a bit already, but for the first time in my life, I was travelling solo, and I couldn't believe I hadn't done it before. 'Cause I LOVE solo travelling.

The destination? Los Angeles, California, USA.

Trump had just won the elections and was starting all kinds of bans, and so, I was kind of worried they wouldn't let me in, considering my Muslim background. However, everything went smoothly at the airport. Almost too smoothly, which you can't say about the politics in USA ever since Trump triumphed in 2016.

Anyway before this I was chillin'. I met a lot of cool people in Los Angeles, like Sri from the band Doctors & Engineers (check out their band), rad bikers and other beautiful beings from the Instagram community.

It was sunny all the time and I got to take tons of photos of palm trees. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a fan of palm trees. But never mind that, here's one of the awesome bikers I met in South Los Angeles.

During my two week stay I chose to stay at several Airbnb-spots. On one hand I made it a bit stressful for myself, since I would have to move around so much, but on the other hand, this might have been the smartest thing I've ever done. You see, I didn't rent a car like everyone tells you should, I would do it I wasn't so afraid to die. But moving around forced me to get to know places better. I was in Hollywood, Melrose Place, Downtown (shout out to Grand Central Market, heeey), Griffith Park, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica (where I saw Rod Stewart), etc. Point being, if I didn't live there, I still managed to get there. Taking the bus, uber etc. worked out just fine.

One of the places I stayed at was a vintage trailer in Echo Park. If you ever find this trailer on your Airbnb-app and it's available, book that place ASAP 'cause it was a dream.

At this trip, a lot of soul searching went down. Thing is, I'd been feeling kind of blue before I decided to go to LA, and one day, at an In & Out burger shop I started to reflect upon this. Then and there I decided I was going to start a new band. I also decided that I would travel more, at least to one new travel destination each year.

I ended up going to Japan the same year as I was in the states (like one month after) even though Japan was this years plan. So this year I'll be going to Bali instead. And a weekend trip to London and Paris. And maybe a trip to Pakistan, depending on the political situation there.

Needless to say, this girl is already broke. But fuck money. I'm free, privileged enough to have the opportunity to see the world, and I'm feeling less blue then before my LA-solo-bonanza. I guess this is how it feels like, to be in love.

Was so nice meeting you and yes, please keep traveling or at least keep exploring, even if it's just a street in your own neighbourhood that you never walked through. Do it! <3

  2. I'm glad you were able to break out of a slump and discover the freedom in travel. Yeah, it isn't always cheap but at times it's worth it to weigh the experience over the monetary discomfort. Having financial security is very important, but sometimes you just need to say f*** it and YES let me experience THIS once in a lifetime thing.

    1. Yes, do it! If you're still reluctant, start with a weekend trip not far away from where you live - somewhere you might know a few people, or maybe you have some Instagram-friends it's about time you meet. That way - if you're afraid you'll get bored, you have the possibility to hang out with someone.

  4. OMG! Sounds like you had a wonderful adventure in LA. I've never been brave enough to travel solo but I've heard such great things about it from my friends who do. It's nice to know that a woman can safely travel and have great adventures exploring new places and meeting new people.
